Description
Katarzyna Wąsala is an assistant professor in the Department of Iranian Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. She holds a PhD in Iranian Studies from Jagiellonian University, and specialized in linguistics. In 2012, she studied Persian Language and Literature at the Dehkhoda Institute in Tehran, through a research grant for students funded by the Polish government, which led her to promote the Persian language. Her academic interests are mainly; the contemporary Persian language and its evolution, contemporary literature, and particularly modern Persian poetry. In addition to the Persian Language and Literature, she is also deeply passionate about the Iranian art and culture, including its classical music and the Iranian calligraphy. In 2015, she co-translated a poetry collection by Halina Poswiatowska- a contemporary Polish poet- with Dr. Zia Qasemi, into Persian. At the same time, Wąsala has translated the works of prominent contemporary Persian poets, like Ahmad Shamlou, into Polish.
In 2022 she defended her doctoral thesis about the modern spoken Persian. She has also translated a number of articles in the field of Persian Language and Literature.
