Dr. Alexander Nagel is Assistant Professor and Chair of the Art History and Museum Professions Program at the State University of New York. He is also a Research Associate at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC. His field of research is mainly the interconnections between the art of Ancient Middle East and Mediterranean regions. He has participated in research about materials of archaeological fieldwork in Iran and Greece and has several publications in the field. Nagel has carried out research on the role of color in the ancient world, especially in Greece and Iran, in addition to curating considerable number of exhibitions about Iran, Iraq, Greece and Egypt. He also conducted research at the National Museum in Tehran, and authored articles on Persepolis for the Oxford Handbook of Ancient Iran (2014) and other prestigious publications. Alexander Nagel is a pioneer of color-archaeology through integrating anthropological and archaeological fieldwork. Nagel has collaborated works with Iranian scholars on joint projects. He is a member of several international organizations, including the Louvre Museum, and the Archaeological Institute of America. He has been a frequent lecturer on Persepolis and the art of Ancient Iran at universities and museums in Iran, Europe, and the United States.
