Nani Gelovani is Georgian orientalist; Islamologist; associate professor at the Department of Eastern History, Faculty of Humanities, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University; and researcher of the history of Islam and Middle Eastern civilization. She was born in 1961. In 1995, she received her law degree from the Tbilisi Humanitarian University. In 1983, she is graduated with a PhD in world history from the University of Tbilisi. Her scientific interests are the history of Islam, the historical relations of Georgia and the Muslim world, Islam in Georgia, Islam and gender. She is the author of more than 100 scientific works, the most important of which is Women in Islam (VII-X cc.) and Women in Islam (X-XVI cc.). The titles of some of her works are:'Islam, gender and education in contemporary Georgia: the example of Kvemo Kartli,' 'Islam and religious education in Turkey,' 'Some aspects of the Georgian presence in the Holy Land,' 'Judaïsme, Christianisme, Islam,' 'Women in Georgia: trace of Islam,' 'First schools of Muslim women in Georgia (1906-1912),' 'Arab-Byzantine relations under the Umayyad Caliphate and South Caucasus'.
