Ulrich Marzolph is a retired adjunct professor of Islamic Studies at the Georg-August-University in Göttingen, Germany. Having spent most of his professional career as a senior member of the editorial committee of the Enzyklopädie des Märchens, a concise dictionary of historical and comparative folk-narrative research, his expertise lies in exploring the narrative culture of the Muslim world. He has published widely on Persian folktales, popular literature, and lithographed books of the Qajar period. Several of his relevant books have been published in Persian translation, most recently his catalogue of mid-twentieth-century Persian chapbooks, entitled Dāstānhā-ye shirin (2021).
