Gülru Necipoğlu started teaching at Harvard’s History of Art and Architecture Department upon receiving her PhD in 1986. She has been the Professor of Islamic Art in Agha Khan program and the manager of this project at Harvard University since 1993. She is the editor of Muqarnas: An Annual on the Visual Cultures of the Islamic World; her books include: Architecture, Ceremonial and Power (1991); The Topkapı Scroll–Geometry and Ornament in Islamic Architecture (1995); The Age of Sinan: Architectural Culture in the Ottoman Empire (2005); Histories of Ornament: From Global to Local (coedited, 2016); A Companion to Islamic Art and Architecture (Wiley-Blackwell, coedited, 2017).
